Your First Visit

“I’ve never been to therapy. What can I expect?”

Whether this is your first time in therapy, or first-time walking into our offices, you probably asked yourself this question. It is a big step to start therapy, and it can be stressful not knowing what will happen. However, we will support you with each step!

Your first visit is the time our therapists get to know you. Your strengths, your concerns, your family and personal medical history, and what led you to seeking therapy. This is where we help you set goals for your therapeutic journey, and provide you with a welcoming and safe space to share yourself and your story at your pace and comfort.

Equally as important, is you get to know us. We value the relationship between client and therapist as it contributes to the success of treatment. Therefore, we encourage you to ask questions to your therapist and see if they are a good fit for you! If you have seen a therapist you specifically want to meet with on Our Teams page, let us know! And feel free to let us know if your assigned therapist is not feeling “right,” as it is our job to make sure you are matched with a clinician who is not only specialized in working with your needs, but also someone you feel comfortable sharing your story with.

Example questions to ask yourself:

”Do I feel comfortable to talk with this therapist?”

“Do I feel they are responsive to my questions and concerns?”

“Am I confident in their ability to help me?”

Example questions to ask your therapist:

“How does your approach to therapy help my concerns?”

“What does progress look like?”

“Are you comfortable working with clients of my background/culture/religion/community/etc?”

If you have any questions, please Contact Us, or check out our FAQ section. We welcome you to Unbroken Family Counseling and look forward to helping your first visit be as comfortable as possible!
